The latest in the Galapagos series, Celebrity Flora was launched in 2019 with accommodation for 100 guests. By far the smallest ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet, Celebrity Xploration accommodates only 16 passengers. The ship underwent its last renovation in September 2018 and is set to be renovated again in September 2024. The Celebrity Xpedition was first launched in 2004 and has a capacity for just 48 guests. The ship was last renovated in March 2019 and is set to be renovated again in January 2025.

The solarium has another pool protected from the hot sun, which was great on port days when there was limited breeze. To maintain this essence of the Celebrity dining experience on Edge, we created the Cosmopolitan Restaurant—the next evolution of our current main restaurants. The walk-through wine display at the entrance sets the scene for the creative cuisine within—new American with global influences. With all these changes, there's a good chance past Celebrity cruisers, expecting the quiet sophistication that they've come to know and love from the line, are not going to be thrilled. In fact, many traditional cruisers may have a hard time with the ship.
Magic Carpet ("outdoor elevator lounge")
Turnaround operations are from the redesigned, Celebrity Cruises' exclusive homeport "Terminal 25" (in Hollywood FL). During the day, "Le Grand Bistro" (in the Atrium on Deck 4) operates as patisserie and cafeteria serving French cuisine. Dinner experience includes visual mapping technology with animated 3D characters projected (from above) onto tables and on plates. It costs USD 25 pp (Le Grand Bistro) and USD 55 pp (Le Petite Chef). Celebrity Cruises' "Virtual Concierge" mobile app also allows making onboard reservations and booking (dinner, spa, classes, etc) and in-cabin ordering (food, drinks, laundry, etc). The app's digital map uses the smartphone's sensors to improve mapping services based on its current location.
The dress code isn’t strictly enforced in the main buffet, but is adhered to for the full-service restaurants. Designed by Tom Wright, the British architect behind the iconic Burj Al Arab, the Magic Carpet is a glass-walled cantilever platform on the starboard side that can be moved up and down. All the way up, 13-stories above sea level, it’s a top-of-the-world bar/lounge.

The drydocking project was for routine maintenance and class inspection, including complete hull works (survey, cleaning), systems and machinery overhauls, as well as hotel upkeep (including new carpeting and upholstery). Following the COVID crisis, in 2021 the ship restarted passenger shipping operations on June 26 (7-day Caribbean roundtrips from Port Everglades/Fort Lauderdale) under the command of Captain Kate McCue. Assisted by 7 tugboats, the liner was floated out 7 months after the coin ceremony. The planned for Jan float-out was postponed due to weather conditions.

One of the most expected entertainment venues you’ll find on Celebrity Edge is also the most unexpected.

The concept is available on Edge-series and select refurbished ships. Retreat guests have access to an exclusive pool, sundeck, jacuzzi, and 24-hour lounge. Located at the bow of the highest deck, the Retreat pool/sundeck feels like a chic private beach club. However, on an at-sea day, the limitation of its intimate size quickly becomes obvious. There are simply not enough beds, tables, and chairs to accommodate the numbers. To make up for this drawback, Retreat’s biggest perk is private restaurant Luminae.
Bi-fold doors separate the “infinite veranda”, an indoor sitting area that converts to a balcony. When the doors are collapsed to the side, the veranda becomes an outward extension of the room, granting a full view through a floor-to-ceiling window. The window can be lowered half-way with a press of a button; when open, the a/c automatically switches off. Keep in mind that the captain can shut and disable them from central command due to rough seas or weather. The crew hails from around the world and brings next-level hospitality to each guest, but it was the staff in The Retreat that impressed me most. When out and about within the ship, I found that if you developed a routine by visiting the same spot for pool towels, Indian food on the buffet or pizza from the aft grill, the staff would also remember your name, too.
